About Smoke-Free Knoxville
Smoke-Free Knoxville (formerly the Greater Knoxville Coalition on Smoking OR Health) is committed to the prevention and reduction of tobacco use. This coalition was formed in 1993 and is comprised of interested community members as well as representatives from over 30 area agencies and hospitals.
The vision of Smoke-Free Knoxville is: Independence From Tobacco.
The mission of Smoke-Free Knoxville is to reduce death, disease, and disability related to the use of tobacco by:
-
- Preventing the initiation of tobacco use
- Promoting and advocating quitting the use of tobacco products
- Eliminating exposure to environmental tobacco smoke
- Supporting tobacco farming communities in gaining independence from tobacco crops
- Identifying and assisting those population subgroups most impacted by tobacco use and its effects
Smoke-Free Knoxville was the first community coalition in the state to have its own local tobacco control plan based on the Center's for Disease Control's "Best Practice for Comprehensive Tobacco Control."
Our coalition meetings are open to anyone interested in working towards our goal of a tobacco free Knoxville. The coalition meets the second Wendesday of each month at 9:00am at the Knox County Health Department. For more information, call 215-5174.
